Who am I?
Tom van der Meer (1980) is Professor in Political Science, in particular Legitimacy, Inequality, and Citizenship, at the University of Amsterdam. My research interests include political trust, social capital, and electoral behaviour. I am the director of the Dutch Parliamentary Election Survey, and co-founder of the Dutch political science blog StukRoodVlees.
I studied Political Science at Leiden University (2003), wrote my dissertation in Sociology at the Radboud University Nijmegen (2009), and worked at the Netherlands Institute for Social Research. Since 2010 I work at the Department of Political Science of the University of Amsterdam.
From 2017 to 2018 I was a member of the Dutch State Committee on the Parliamentary System, that was assigned by government and parliament to review parliamentary democracy and present recommendations.
